How to Use the Sitemap Tool

1. Login to The Toolkit

2. Click "Sitemap" link on the left hand side



3. Choose "Frequency"



4. Click "Create File"



5. The next page the shows the link to view the sitemap file as well as the URL that you can use to submit your site to search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc.



Verification:

In order to submit your sitemap to relevant search engines you will need to create accounts with the engines required. You will find links to the popular search engines below:

Google: http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps
(You will need to create a free Google account.)

Click on "Add a Site" map.

Then Select "General Sitemap"

Then enter sitemap.xml in the box marked "3. My Sitemap URL is:" and Click add "General Web Sitemap".

Yahoo: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit
(You will need to create a free Yahoo account.)

MSN: Whilst MSN have yet to implement a sitemap submission service, there is a recognised back door for submitting your sitemap to the MSN Search index; namely moreover.com! You should use the following syntax directly in your browser URL box:

http://api.moreover.com/ping?u=http://yourdomain.com/yoursitemap.xml


If you have both a Yahoo and Google account please verify one account at a time i.e verify one account then do the other account once the first has been verified, (note verification can take upto 24 hours to complete).
