The video below shows the process of how to import a table (click the button on the bottom right of the video to expand the view). You can also follow the screen shots and steps below this.
Importing a table is simple in the Toolkit.
1. If you want to import a table into an existing page, please copy all the text of the existing page and save it as a .txt document using text editing software such as Notepad, Wordpad or TextEdit.
This is because sometimes when importing tables the existing text of the page can be lost. This way if this happens, you have a copy save so you can add it back in.
2. The next step is to save the table you wish to upload as a CSV file. First, open the table you wish to import in Excel.
3. Then save the table as a CSV file. Click on File on the top left of Excel, then click Save As in the menu that drops down.
4. The next step is to select the file type using the drop down box at the bottom of the Save As window. Select CSV, (.csv) and save the file.
5. Please ensure you follow the instructions below when saving the file as a CSV file.
A. When exporting data from excel into your CSV file ensure that:
1. You delete any cells that are not to be displayed. E.g any Blank cells to the right or at the bottom of the rows of data. 2. You delete any commas in the data cells. Replace with hyphens if necessary. 3. You set the text delimiters to "none".
B. Please ensure that you only upload csv (comma seperated values) files. CSV files can be created by exporting data from excel and saving as a CSV.
C. The CVS file's first line should be the Column titles for the table.
D. Only upload one table per CSV file.
E. Table Comments, Headers or footers should be added via the Toolkit and should not be included within the CSV file.
6. When the file has been saved, Login to The Toolkit
7. Click on the Pages link under Content in the left hand sidebar of the Toolkit.
8. If you wish to add the table to a new page, click on the New Page link. If you wish to add the table to an existing page click on the title of the page to which you wish to add the table. Remember to copy and save all existing content on the page before trying to add the table.
9) Click on Insert Table button.
10) Click on the 'OK' for save before loading the table editor.
11. Click on the Table Import button.
12. A pop up will appear with instructions to remind you of how to format your CSV file. Click Browse to find your table on your computer. If you do not see a pop-up window, please make sure you have added 'https://www.thetoolkit.co.uk' as a safe site on any pop up blocking software you are running.
13. Once you have found your table on your computer, Click Import Table.
14. Click Import.
15.Your Table should appear in the Editing Window.
